Media Release: RUAP National President Daniel Nalliah challenged the VIC & NSW governments to a public debate on Multiculturalism & Free Speech yesterday at the Rally at VIC State Parliament steps in support of removing clause 18C

Rise Up Australia Party National President Daniel NalliahGeneral Immediate Media Release 26th June 2014

Quoting the ABC, where NSW Premier Mike Baird and Matthew Guy the Victorian Minister for Multicultural Affairs stated that both Governments will not support the removal of 18C. They quoted “The concerns across the multicultural communities in this state are saying ‘we’re worried, we’re afraid’, and we’re standing up for them,” he said.

Mr Nalliah stated this morning from his office, “I am shocked at the statements made by the NSW & VIC Governments and that they put in submissions opposing the right to Free Speech. This is a disgrace as they are wanting to protect the minority’s rights by being politically correct, but they are willing to sacrifice the majority of Aussies and take away their rights for Free Speech.

If they are so sure that Multiculturalism is working well in Australia, I challenge them both to a public debate on this very important issue as this could make or break our nation and rob the freedoms we enjoy from the next generation.

I am an immigrant from Sri Lanka who called Australia home 16 years ago, so I have had both hats on. Meaning, I know how minority groups of immigrants think and now as a proud Aussie I also know very well what my countrymen think as I travel the length and breadth of Australia speaking and engaging with people from all walks of life.

They tell me ‘our bloody politicians are selling our country to be in power. They are only concerned about themselves and not the future of Australia’.

So, I have some advice for Matthey Guy and Mike Baird. Do not just listen to the minority groups of immigrants who are wanting their rights. Have you lived overseas, in particular in a 3rd world country or in the Middle East? I have. Experience is the best school you could ever go to.

Take up my challenge. Let’s debate the issue of Multiculturalism and Free Speech in a public forum. I await your response.”
