Jennifer Whately

JenniferWhatelyHouse of Representatives Candidate for Forrest, WA

Jennifer Whately was born in Inverness, Scotland UK, and spent her first four years in wartime Britain. Her father was a Lt. Surgeon Commander on aircraft carriers in the Royal Navy, and her mother was nursing in a London hospital.  The family left the UK in 1946 for Christmas Island Indian Ocean, which was under British rule until 1950, after which they moved to a wheat-belt town in Western Australia.

She was educated at Perth College from 1952-59, graduating as Dux, then went on to complete a Science degree at UWA, later adding a Dip.Ed. (1978) to her academic credentials.

Jennifer worked as a High School teacher from 1982-1993, and helped start Regent College Victoria Park.  From 1983-1990 she also did children’s ministry, children’s evangelism in shopping centres and schools.

She became a naturalised citizen on 29/10/1992 and with her husband, Brian, was present at the founding of a city church, of which they were board members for seven years, during which she taught Bible School, went on mission trips to Sri Lanka, India and Kenya.

In 2004 Jennifer was ordained as a minister and she spent five years doing weekly prison ministry at Hakea Prison, six years connected with Teen Challenge drug rehabilitation in Esperance, and is presently in pastoral roles in her local church.

In 2001 Jennifer helped start the YouthCARE Balcatta District Council which supports and helps fund chaplaincy in the Balcatta Primary and High Schools. This is still ongoing.

She stood for 2 state and 2 Federal elections in the last few years.

Jennifer has four children and eight grandchildren, and has a desire to leave to them, an Australia which holds dear the established values of integrity, honesty, respect for the sanctity of human life, respect for others and their right to freedom of speech…all these things our forefathers fought for in a war that was not of their making, yet they volunteered to put themselves forward to defend our civilization and all it stood for.

Even so she would like to see our great nation and its many peoples live in prosperity and peace and quietness that comes from good government.  Jennifer will be contesting the seat of Forrest.
